Kylie Rose's Run

Thank you so much to the supporters who participated in our 5th annual Kylie Rose’s Run on Sunday, August 25, 2019! This year we were excited to announce that some of the Akron Children’s Hospital patients who have received Project Outrun shoes attended the 5K! We all honored them by cheering them on as they walked, ran, and rode in strollers around the track (one lap) right before the 5K runners took off!I

IMPORTANT NOTE: Those participants who registered in person or did not get a shirt because of late registration, may pick Shirts up between September 10 and September 22 at Ritchie’s Sporting Goods. Ritchie’s will also provide 15% off anything in the store during that time.

How We Started

In early 2015, after Kylie’s initial diagnosis, she started in with her treatment plan which included chemo, radiation and surgery. Once a few months of chemo passed by and her tumor was shrinking enough for surgery, we could see that the light at the end of the tunnel was getting brighter. We felt so blessed by all the support we were receiving from the hospital, our friends and family, neighbors, strangers, the Copley school district, etc.; we knew we wanted to do something to show our appreciation. We were also witnessing families who didn’t have the support we did, and we knew they needed help. In late spring we started talking more and more about wanting to give back to the Oncology Department at Akron Children’s Hospital as well as support the families there.

We, Carrie and Eric, are both runners and we wanted to do something that we were passionate about, something that was focused on the entire family…something that promoted family time together and family health.  A 5k and family fun run was an easy decision and we decided we didn’t want to wait for a year to pass by…we were going to pull the first annual Kylie Rose’s Run together in less than four months and target the end of August. The community was extremely supportive and excited. It was truly awesome!

That first year, there were over 700 runners and the event raised over $15,000 for Akron Children’s Hospital.  Years two, three, & four saw over 1000 runners participate each year, and the event has now raised over $72,000 for the hospital.

The 5K starts and finishes in Copley High School’s Stadium and runs through the surrounding neighborhoods. The Family Fun Run is a noncompetitive one mile run/walk around the track. There is also a fun, competitive one mile run. Throughout the duration of the 5K and Fun Run, there are fun activities on the football field for children of all ages (face painting, card making, visits from princesses, obstacle courses, parachute fun, etc.). The Akron Children’s Hospital Air Bear helicopter has also landed for the kids to explore.
